Trucking
Ujima Career Center presents an 4-6-week totaling 160 hours. During this course, students will learn all of the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier (FMC) rules and regulations as they pertain to a professional Truck Driver. They will also learn all the necessary functions as it relates to the safe operation of a tractor/trailer combination. This will include classroom study, onsite driving pad hands on study and actual off-site on road driving as well. Students will also learn pre-trip inspection, logbooks, both paperwork and electronics
Students will be prepared for local driving, regional driving and long-haul driving. All students will learn a complete laundry list
of driving techniques which are vital to the success of the Truck Driver. This list includes defensive driving, accident avoidance,
space management, swivel head driving, vehicle preparation and upkeep, hazmat driving and driving in inclement weather,
just to name a few. Students are expected to complete the school program in a maximum of 8 weeks, after which they will
enter an Apprenticeship program where trainers and mentors will guide them through the complexities of building a powerful
and profitable trucking business. All students and graduates will be duly prepared to see themselves not as “employees” but
professional contractors and business owners.
